I encountered Urbit (and Moldbug) when the original Moron Lab posts dropped on HN. Unless it was through LoperOS, who incidentally might want to get his tail moving.Either way, I wasn't programming computers then, and I am now, and that's not a coincidence. 2021-2-16 · Briefly put, Urbit requires you to have an Urbit OS (which runs your code, stores your data, etc.) and an Urbit ID (which demonstrates your ownership of said code and data). Urbit ¶ Urbit OS, the Landscape interface and Vere are all contained in one monolithic repository that can be found here.

You may have heard that "Urbit" uses Azimuth, an Ethereum-based identity layer. Ever since this was announced, "Urbit" has gotten more bloated and more unstable.

10 Jun 2017 Urbit docs are available at http://urbit.org and the example apps (with installation instructions) are at http://github.com/urbit/examples.

I suggest you don’t - you can do better than a Raspberry Pi! They’re the most popular brand, and have the widest number of compatible accessories, but CPU and storage are both slower on the Raspberry Pi than on alternatives with the same or slightly higher price. Once you’re comfortable working with Urbit, check out the project’s issues on GitHub or some of our contribution bounties. If you’re looking for some guidance, need help, or would prefer direct communication for your ideas, you can also always reach out to us directly at support@urbit.org. Next Steps ¶ Rudimentary urbit chat tagging, notifications.

Landing page of website collects minimal information from visitor: Name, email, optional opt-in to foundation newsletter. They are then redirected to a live Landscape interface to "kick the tires" on Urbit as a comet. There will be instruction about how the interface works, what activities to do, etc.

Ever since this was announced, "Urbit" has gotten more bloated and more unstable. Updates. Every month we send an email with community events and what we're up to. The Grants program is Tlon's system of awarding stars for useful outside contributions to the Urbit project. Grants are paid out in the form of stars, in one of three ways: Urbit is gaining momentum, and soon we'll have apps that people really want to use. Currently people from outside Urbit see joining as something of a hassle or time investment that they may not want to make.

Urbit AArch64 APT Repository. If you’re running a debian derivative, you can install Urbit as a debian package: Import the repository signing key Run urbit with urbit some-planet (note there’s no ./ in front of the urbit command like when you use the usual binaries from linux64.tgz). So booting a comet would be urbit -c mycomet and running that comet would be urbit mycomet, and booting a planet would be urbit -w sampel-palnet -k ./my-planet.key. Running Urbit on Android should be considered an experimental platform; a fun place for trying things out with a moon, rather than the best place to host your planet from. I wouldn’t run it continuously for long stretches because Urbit writes more heavily to disk than it needs to right now, and a phone/tablet isn’t going to have enough spare disk capacity to absorb that wear.
